Patch notes: pictures in the pages

Gather round, gather round! Or don’t gather, stay where you are, you’re reading, that’s the whole point. The book now has pictures. Seventy-two of them. I wanted a hundred. I was told that seventy-two is “plenty” and “this is not a negotiation”. It was absolutely a negotiation. I lost it, gracefully.

Reading

• Illustrations throughout the chapters. Scenes now sit between the paragraphs, right after the moment they show. They fade in as you reach them.
• The downloadable book has them too. The EPUB from the Codex now carries the same pictures, in the same places, as the chapters here. It’s a bigger download now, about 13 MB.
• Chapters finish when you finish them. On a tall screen the last paragraph now counts once it’s fully in view. Leaving “End of chapter” on screen for fifteen seconds also counts, and so does going straight on to the next chapter.
• The top bar stays put at the end of a chapter, so the way onward is always in reach.

The soundtrack

• New cover art, on the Music page, on your lock screen while it plays, in every track and in the download.
• The two older recordings are now marked as bonus tracks. Same music, honest label.

That’s the update. Read slowly. Look at the pictures. They took longer than you’d think.
