Patch notes: stone by stone

From Light, principal

Hello again! A few small things, and most of them make a noise. I’m delighted. (I’m usually delighted. Today, more.)

In the game

  • Garbage blocks are solid stone now. When a match touches one, it flashes and splits into bricks, light seeps through the joints, and each brick bursts into chips and gives up its tile. What’s left of the slab closes up into one piece again. And if the tiles it gives up make a match beside another slab, that one breaks too: chain them! Even a slab still settling on top of that match breaks the moment it lands, so a stack of slabs can come down one after another, if you line them up.
  • Those bite marks along the top of every slab look like proper tooth marks now. Something with very big, very blunt teeth. I’m sure it’s nothing.
  • Garbage blocks break one tile at a time. When a slab cracks, its bottom row turns back into tiles one by one, left to right, each with its own little pop. Once the last one shows, they all drop together, and yes, they can still start a chain. Patience is a virtue. So is a well-timed chain.
  • Nothing ends mid-pop. While tiles are still popping, a slab is breaking, or a clear’s tiles are falling, the stack holds still and you can’t top out. Finish the moment; then we’ll see.
  • A new pop. Clearing tiles has a brighter sound, rising a touch with each tile, so a big clear sounds like it.

Listen closely next time a slab gives way. It’s very satisfying. I checked. Several times.
