Patch notes
Patch notes: scores that hold their shape
From Tide, teacher of water
A score is a record of something that happened. We would like the board to hold only those. So, for a while, I have been sitting with how to be sure. This is where I arrived.
The high-score board
- Every saved score is checked. When you save, your run is played back from its first move, and the board keeps the score that playback reaches. You don’t need to do anything differently. You only need to have played.
- Save soon after you finish. A run can be saved for a few hours after it begins. A run that started while the site couldn’t be reached can’t go on the board, and the results screen will say so.
- A quiet check that you’re a person. It runs when you save, invisibly. Most of you will never see it.
- Your best run in each mode is kept, so the board can be checked again later. Only your moves, nothing about you.
- Fair play. Runs that look automated may be reviewed, and scores can be removed. The game terms already say so. I mention it only so no one is surprised.
If your score is real, none of this will touch you. It is only water, finding the shape of what is already there.
